In Honor of Dr. Seuss’s Birthday, BMS held many reading celebrations throughout the first week of March. The 5th grade students under the direction of "Reach" teacher Mrs. Romano, participated in a unique NEA Read Across America event. The NEA provided the opportunity for students from schools in New Hampshire to "meet" using two-way interactive video to both read to and be read to by another class. From a conference room at Bow High School our students read poetry by Shel Silverstein and Robert Frost to a ‘t.v.’ screen where a group of 7th grade students from Nashua, listened. Nashua’s group then took turns reading selections from Paulsen’s the Rifle. The best part was a question and answer session between the two groups of students, where we learned that both Bow’s 5th graders and Nashua’s 7th graders were in their first year of changing of classes! We also got to ask the Nashua students what sports they played and the size of their school. Pretty humbling to realize our whole school district barely made up the whole of their Jr High! It was a new experience and the students walked away with an official NEA Read Across America certificate of appreciation and having met some new 'friends'!
