Learning Styles/Thinking Styles:
The Impact on Homework
Presented by Rebecca L. Mann
Based on the work of Anthony Gregorc, PhD

Dr. Anthony Gregorc has determined that humans make sense of our world in very different ways. His "Mind Style" research resulted in four styles through which we perceive our world: Concrete Sequential (CS), Abstract Sequential (AS), Abstract Random (AR) and Concrete Random (CR). This presentation is a very brief introduction into Gregorc’s Mind Style Model. For more information, visit www.gregorc.com.
Some important points before beginning our journey:

*Dr. Gregorc STRONGLY believes that children should not be labeled and categorized.

*It is beyond our ability to accurately assess the many dimensions of style in our children.

*The understanding of styles provides us with the understanding of why it is necessary to offer our children many options for completing their work.

*All people are a blend of the four styles.

The terms Concrete and Abstract refer to the world in which an individual lives.
The Concrete world is physical and action oriented with many "things" around.
The Abstract world revolves around feelings, relationships and ideas.
The terms Sequential and Random refer to how you live your life.
The Sequential individual prefers an orderly and predictable life.
The Random individual is spontaneous.
Combine these four terms and you have the four Mind Styles.
