Over the past few months, more and more Bow High School students have discovered a new socializing network called Facebook. According to Senior Sara Crisp, Facebook is a good way to communicate with people. “It’s a great way to talk to your friends and to know what’s going on with people at your school, other school, and it’s a great way to stay in contact with your friends at college,” Crisp said. Junior Kiley Corson likes to keep tabs on people through Facebook. “Not only can you keep in touch with your friends, you can do other things, like looking at other peoples pictures,” Corson said. “I like to see what’s going on.” Although Facebook might be known as a socializing network, there are some precautions that need to be taken. “Sometimes people abuse it by being too gossipy, and having other people seeing it,” Crisp said. “That just causes drama.” Facebook and My space have some of the same set up, but Facebook is known to be very safe. According to Bow High School graduate and New England College Freshman Adam Manolis, Facebook is much better and safer. “The only way you can look at their profiles, is if they are your friend, so you don’t have to worry about making your profile private because it does it for you,” Manolis said. |

It’s hard to walk through the hallways of BHS without seeing someone talking on a cell phone, listening to an MP3 player, or texting a message to a friend. Cell phones, iPods, and MP3s can be found drifting around the high school throughout the day. While some students cannot imagine themselves without their technology, there are a select few who prefer not to have use these gadgets. Sophomore Lauren Allison said she has both an iPod and a cell phone. She said she considers herself addicted to the iPod, but not the cell phone. “I could possibly live without a cell phone, but definitely not the iPod,” Allison said. Allison said her iPod is both fun and entertaining. She said her iPod is also more convenient. “I used to have to bring CDs on car trips,” Allison said. Freshman Sarah Large uses her cell phone every day, but would not consider herself addicted. Large uses her cell phone to call for rides, but if she has some free time, she calls her friends. Large does not have an MP3, but occasionally will borrow a friend’s phone. BEST teacher Tracy Berube recently bought a cell phone and received an iPod for Christmas. And although she is new to this technology, she said she is “doing a much better job.” Berube admits she is “totally addicted” to her new gadgets. Now that she has her iPod to play with she said it is good because her TV is shut off usually.

Natasha Franks had no interest in Chorus her freshman year. Now a senior, Franks has been accepted into All-State in both Jazz and Classical. Going into freshman year Franks did not participate in anything musical. Now she is a section leader in Chorus. All-State is a state wide music audition. It tests a musician of their true musical abilities. “Chorus is a way to express myself,” Franks said. That is why Franks continued with Chorus throughout her high school career. Freshmen Steven Bosse and Sam Williams both expressed that Franks is a great example to others. “For Steven Bosse and me, Natasha Franks is a true choral inspiration,” Williams and Bosse said. |
