Bow School to Career Partnership Meeting Minutes

The meeting began with a welcome to all.
Colleen reported that the Junior Achievement program in Grade 2 entitled Our Community is complete.
Kate reported that Career Days at Bow Memorial School will take place on Thursday, March 6 and Friday, March 7. She thanked the Bow Rotary Club for their assistance with recruiting speakers. Kate also mentioned that the following items will be included in the portfolios of Grade 8 students:
Multiple Intelligence Test results
Learning Styles
Career Inventories
These portfolios will be given to the BHS Guidance Department for use while the students are in high school.
Mary Ann reported that the Internship Course Final Presentations took place yesterday. Parents and Internship Supervisors were in attendance as well to participate in this culminating activity of the course. The evaluations of the students as well as of the course have been very positive.

Additional internships are in the process of being finalized at Madeleine’s (culinary arts) and the NH Center for Public Policy Studies (economic analysis). Recent job shadows have taken place at Concord Eye Center and the ACA Assurance Company. Seniors have integrated informational interviews and job shadows into their Senior Projects.
Becka discussed her Senior Project which involved organizing a Wii Tournament with residents of Heritage Heights. The project was a huge success and Becka continues to volunteer at the retirement community. Mary Ann recently met with the management of Havenwood-Heritage Heights to discuss ways in which the two organizations can collaborate. There are many opportunities for students to volunteer with the residents.
Mary Ann circulated the Dress for Success flyer she developed for students preparing to engage in a work-based learning experience such as a job shadow or internship. Colleen mentioned the differences she observed when her Grade 1 students interacted with teens who were dressed casually and those who were dressed in a more formal way.
Iris circulated brochures for the upcoming Women in History Month Banquet sponsored by NHTI. The program is entitled Women’s Art: Women’s Vision and features Robin Lane as “Mary Cassatt and the Impressionists.” The event will take place on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 from 6:00 – 8:30pm at the Grappone Conference Center in Concord. Iris also mentioned the Wings of Knowledge Lecture Series and its many offerings this semester at NHTI.
