Thinking about college?
Questions to ask yourself ~
Knowing yourself and what you want in a college is the first step in the college
choice process. Here are some questions to get you thinking about your talents, interests, and
personality.
- Why do I want to attend college?
- What is my favorite academic subject?
Do I want to learn more about it in college?
- When I read for fun, what do I read
about?
- What do I like to do in my free time?
- What am I good at, both inside and
outside the classroom?
- What talents do my friends or my
family say I have?
- Do I like being around a lot of
different people, or would I rather have just a few close friends?
- Do I like personal attention from a
teacher, or do I like to blend into a large group?
- Do I get homesick easily?
- Is there a part of the country I
especially like?
- Do I like the excitement of a big
city, or would I rather go hiking in the woods?
- Would I like to go somewhere totally
different from my current environment, or do I want a more familiar setting?
- What kind of academic support do I
need to succeed?
- Do I thrive on challenges?
- What activities are important to me?
- Do I work better when I am competing
against others, or would I rather compete against myself?
Whether you are ready for college now or
you feel it's not for you, it is important to make an appointment with
your guidance counselor for post secondary planning!
