Ping Pong Ball Launcher Assignment

Materials and Equipment:

1- 8 1/2" X 40" Sheet of heavy paper
2- Rubber bands
3-Paper clips
All the glue, tape, or staples you need.

The Problem:

Given the instructor supplied materials, design and construct a device that will launch a ping pong ball the highest and farthest possible. Each group of students will be given the above materials.  All materials do not need to be used. Testing will follow after everyone is done constructing and presenting.

Objectives:

1. Apply the problem solving method.
2. Employ the principles of design.
3. Use skills learned during CAD to make a drawing.
4. Communicate both orally and visually with the language of technology.
5. Generate a technical report.
6. Formulate a group presentation.

Evaluation:

  1. CAD drawing of the groups idea. (25 points)
  2. Appearance: Quality, neatness, creativity, and construction process. (25 points)
  3. Length of flight. (10 points)
  4. Height of flight. (10 points)
  5. Written report. (15 points)
  6. Group presentation. (15 points)
