Nurse

It has certainly been a whirlwind year!  The year started with H1N1 concerns. Thanks to the efforts by our Bow community—students, staff, and parents—the pandemic effects were less than anticipated. It was a great lesson in the health impact of simply washing hands, covering coughs, and staying home when we are sick.

On Tuesday and Thursday mornings before school, I have been walking and having open gym time with a dedicated group of students. On Thursday, June 10, we hosted our third annual Bow Community Walk.  This was in support of a statewide celebration of walking—Walk NH Week—and incorporating walking as part of a healthy lifestyle. Our walk to Bow High School and back was followed by prizes, treats, and games. Parents, friends, and community members were invited to join us.

On Friday morning, June 11, the Leaders in Prevention Program (LIP) hosted its traditional Summer Vacation Breakfast—the LIP Luau. All students were invited to attend. Students came in early and brought food to share and were encouraged to bring friends. Breakfast was followed by beach ball volleyball, the limbo, and games in a tropical atmosphere.  The beach theme was carried over into the last dance of the year.

A few reminders as school is coming to a close:

  • Summer is a good time for catching up on doctor appointments and checking to see if your child’s immunizations are up-to-date.
  • Students who want to play fall sports need to have a recent physical exam on file in the nurse’s office.
  • Bow School District policy also requires a physical exam to be done during 5th or 6th grade.

Please pick up all medications from the nurse by the end of school on June 17. We cannot store medications safely here during the summer. Any medicines left behind will be discarded.  A new medication form needs to be filled out each year, and a doctor’s signature on the form must accompany a prescription. Forms are available in the front office or online at www.bownet.org/direland.

Have a great summer!
