The BMS Invention Convention will be held on Thursday, March 11, 2010. Any student in grades 5-8 choosing to participate will have two options—either develop an original idea for an invention and build a model of it or build a Rube Goldberg Machine. Grade-level winners in each of the two categories will go on to the State Invention Convention on Saturday, April 3, 2010 at Merrimack Valley High School in Penacook. Volunteers are needed for judging and setting up. If you are interested in volunteering, please email Christy Romano or call 225-3212 ext. 416.
The literary magazine, BMS Expressions, is back! We are looking for students in all grades to submit any of their writing (short stories, poems, essays, and narratives), drawings or illustrations, or photographs by March 19, 2010. Please submit your piece along with the BMS Expressions form to Mrs. Romano (REACH) or to your LA teacher.

The Music Department and REACH co-hosted a winter recital on Wednesday, January 20 for advanced musicians in grades 7 and 8. Each student performed a piece of music of his/her choice as well as provided program notes about the composer and/or piece. It was a wonderful opportunity for the students to share their talents with teachers, families, and fellow musicians.
A music recital for 5th and 6th grade advanced music students is planned for the spring. If your child has an interest in participating, please have him/her contact Mrs. Giguere or Mrs. Romano.
The BMS mentoring program continues with new mentorships in math, science, writing, Chinese, and art. Rob Kramer is mentoring a group of 5th grade students on advanced math topics as well as sharing his passion of science with five 6th graders. Two groups of 5th graders are enjoying math enrichment activities with mentors Ana Teresa Mullen and Tara Weckstein. Several fifth graders are working with Alison Hrinchuk on writing activities and creating a collection of stories. Yanzhen Zhoa, the BHS Chinese teacher, is sharing her love of the Chinese language and culture with a group of 6th graders and a group of 8th graders. A group of sixth graders is working with mentor Chris O’Brien focusing on drawing. Madison Milne is working with 5th graders on enrichment activities.
We are very fortunate to have these talented mentors, and we appreciate all their time, dedication, and expertise. We welcome anyone who would like to share his/her interests with middle school students.
