OPORTUNIDADES ADVANZADAS EN LA CLASE DE ESPANOL

(Modeled after Mrs. Burke’s and Mr. Gaudreau’s Challenges)

Sra. Evans

To be eligible for honors credit for the semester, you must get an 85 or better in 4 different categories each quarter. You must do both quarters (8 opportunities with an 85 or better) to get the honors designation on your report card and transcript.

*The 7 CATEGORIES:

Speaking: Giving a presentation; speaking entirely in Spanish in class for 3 consecutive classes.

Reading and Writing in Spanish: In depth research on the current topic with a log or outline in Spanish. Requirements to be determined.

Reading and Writing in English (Spanish III only): In depth historical research with a paper. Requirements to be determined.

Listening: Tape, video, Spanish channel News with notes in Spanish

Artistic endeavor: musical piece, painting, poem, etc. Requirements to be determined.

Extended test: English to Spanish vocabulary or Spanish definitions; more writing; longer answers

An approved Student Choice with documentation

This is NOT extra credit; if you do not complete the honors requirements both quarters, the grade(s) you earned will be averaged into your quarter grades. There will be no additional penalty other than not receiving the honors designation if you do not complete the requirements.

PROCEDURE: At the beginning of the quarter begin by writing a proposal* for one of the challenges. I will either approve it or modify it and then give you the two weeks due date. When one challenge is completed you may submit another proposal, even if you did not get an 85 on the previous one. If you choose to continue to work on a challenge that received less than an 85, you will have one week to finish it, and when it is finally completed, you may submit a proposal for another challenge. Except for an extended test, you may continue to work on a challenge to improve on your grade.

If you choose to take an extended test, you will need to tell me when the test is announced so I will be able to have the correct number of copies on the day of the test. You may change your mind before the test is passed out, but you may not change your mind after the test is handed to you.

*PROPOSAL (except for the test extension):

At the top of your paper, write your name, class period, and category for the challenge

Write your plan in detail (what you plan to do and how you plan to do it)

Make a copy of the proposal (I will return one to you and keep one for me)
