CYCLING ADVOCACY EFFORTS

Training/Team Outreach:
The 27 members of the Sunapee/S&W Racing Team train a
combined total of over 270 hours per week. From early spring to early fall,
most of this time is devoted to cycling-specific training. In the off-season,
members of the team hike, run, mountain bike, play team sports, and enjoy
other recreational activities. During the winter, a majority of the members
focus their training efforts on cross-country skiing. Throughout the year,
team members wear their Sunapee/S&W Racing Team clothing while training
and continually endeavor to promote a healthy and competitive lifestyle. We
routinely encourage individuals not affiliated with the team to join us in
these workouts.
Racing Performance:
USCF Sanctioned Races: Members of our team competed at 50
racing venues around New England in 2006 with a total of 346 race starts.
Details of our success at these events are included in the Racing Summary
Section of this brochure.
USCF Training Races: Members of our team regularly compete
at the highest levels (the A-Race) in three weekly training race series around
New Hampshire. We regularly finish in the top three at the Claremont Points
Race Series on Tuesday nights and at the Twilight Track Series in Londonderry
on Tuesday nights. In the season-long Thursday Night Series at New Hampshire
International Speedway, we swept the top three places. During the season,
we have had a total of well over 250 training race starts.
Junior Development:
The Sunapee/S&W Junior Racing Team: We have a strong
commitment to promoting cycling to local youth. In 2006, we started a junior
racing team. We provide every junior who joins the team with a free team jersey,
the opportunity to compete at the Claremont Points Race Series, and the opportunity
to compete at weekend events. In our initial year, we had five members on
the team. On average, members of the Junior Racing Team competed five times
each in 2006.
Race Promotion:
Lake Sunapee Bike Race: The 33rd Annual Lake Sunapee Bike
Race was held on May 20, 2006. This is the oldest annual single-day event
in New England. The race attracted over 500 competitors, from 10 to over 60
years old. Next year’s race will be held on May 19th.
Cross-Trainers Challenge 10K Freestyle Cross-Country Ski Race: We will be co-hosting
the Cross-Trainers Challenge 10K Freestyle Cross-Country Ski Race with the
Waterville Valley Nordic Center in January of 2007. The goal of this race
is to encourage the bike racing community to set competitive goals for themselves
in the winter time and to become avid cross-country skiers. We anticipate
over 200 competitors in this event.
Community Outreach:
Coaching Youth Athletics: Five of our members coach cross-country
ski teams throughout New Hampshire and another coaches an alpine freestyle
team. Approximately 200 young skiers, from Bill Koch League to High School
and beyond, benefit from our expertise in the areas of aerobic and ski-specific
training.
Team Leisure Clothing: Team member and sole proprietor of Harrison Creative,
Craig Harrison, has created a line of team leisure clothing and other articles
that prominently display team sponsor logos. These are available for order
online at: www.cafepress.com/CreativeGuy
