Hominid Types

This is a very general outline of hominid types as they developed over time.  Again, this is based on extremely limited information.  Characteristics and development are quite vague, as there are no absolutely distinct qualities or time-periods specific to each.

Australopithecine

(pronounced: AW-STRAY-LOH-PIH-THUH-SYN)

Australopithecine is the name given to one of the earliest known types of hominids, remains of which have been found in both south and east Africa, primarily at a place called the Olduvai Gorge (near present day Tanzania).

Homo Sapiens: meaning "wise man"

Neanderthal:
remains first found in the Neander Valley in present day Germany, later found in both Europe & the Middle East.  Neanderthals were the first people (that we know of) to bury their dead

Homo Sapien Sapiens: meaning "wise, wise man"
lived first in Africa, then migrated (moved from one place to another) throughout entire world; meanwhile Neanderthals are believed to have become mostly extinct (no longer living)
