Ohio SchoolNet's eCommunity

When the Internet exploded in the early 1990's, Ohio's government leaders recognized the impact of networked computing on education. They knew that many Ohio districts did not have the fiscal resources to provide these technologies, and they believed that the benefits of technology should be made available to public school students in Ohio. In his 1994 State-of-the-State address, then-Governor George V. Voinovich outlined a vision for the future of education in Ohio that featured access to data, voice, and video networks for every public school classroom in the state. SchoolNet was designed as a $95 million, state-funded partnership that expanded the traditional classroom experience for children to help them acquire skills critical to the education and job markets of the future.
