Internet Questions:

How Do I setup Internet Explorer to use Bow's proxy server?(Primarily an issue at Bow High School for users of Windows NT: Answered by Bob Jaques (BHS))

The first time you log on to any computer you need to set up the Internet. Right click once on the Internet Explorer icon, select properties, click on the connection tab, check off the box that says to connect through a Proxy server, type in proxy.bownet.org Type 80 in the PORT box. You can also go click on the General tab and type in http://www.bownet.org as the home page. See Mr. Jaques, Mrs. Lizotte, or Mrs. Mottola if you are still having trouble.

*NOTE: When you double click on the internet icon you will get a screen that asks you if you want to setup the Internet Explorer. Just click on next and check the box "I already have an internet connection and don’t want to change it" or something of the sort. Then click on finish and your done.

E-Mail Questions:

How Do I setup a computer to read my email? (Answered by Bob Jaques (BHS))

Setting up your Exchange account (Inbox)

  1. To setup your e-mail account there are a couple of ways of doing this. If it’s on a computer you haven’t setup yet just double click the "Inbox" icon. It will start the Exchange "wizard".
  2. The first thing it should ask you is to "Select the following information services…." You will want to choose Microsoft Exchange Server. Click on Next
  3. There will be a box to type in your Profile name. That’s your name you logged onto the computer with. Type it in then click on Next.
  4. In the box for Microsoft Exchange server type in Odyssey. In the Mailbox box it should already have your name in it. If it doesn’t type it now. Click on Next
  5. Do you travel with this computer?….check off NO. Click on next.
  6. This is the fun part. You will want to put your Personal Address book some place. In the box it shows you a path of something like C:\Exchange\mailbox.pab….or something else. You will want to click on browse then at the top of the next box click on Look in. You will want to find your teambhs or teambhs2 folder ( your name in the folder) and click on it. Double click on your name. Click on Open at the bottom. Then it will show you a new path to your Personal address book …H:\teambhs*\yourname\mailbox.pab. You’ll want to save the file in your folder in case you check mail at another computer. Click on Next.
  7. The next box should be checked off Do not add Inbox to the startup group. Leave that and click on Next.
  8. The next box should say Done! With all the services you have setup.

If you have already have done this the computer your at and want to change it or there is a problem, right click on the Inbox and select properties. At the bottom click on the Show profiles box. This is where you can start the process described above by clicking on add for a new profile or select properties of one you’ve already done……or see Bob (For more detail and pictures... read Roy's Exhange Tutorial)

E-Mail Questions:

How do I access my email from the World Wide Web(WWW)? (Answered by Bob Jaques (BHS))

Virtual Bob's helpful tip corner........

To get your mail from any web browser that is connected to the internet ( AOL, MediaOne etc.) Open your web browser after you connect to the service, then type in mail.bownet.org/exchange in the address box.  Notice the mail instead of www.  You'll get a log in screen.  Type in your name then press Enter.  You'll get one of those wonderful little boxes that ask for your name and password.  Type in bownet\yourname ( aka bownet\Robert Jaques) then the password in the lower box. Click on okay.  You should now see what looks like your school mail program on your browser.....cool.  It takes a little longer to open windows but it will continue to receive mail as long as you're in the browser.

Keep this, print it, live it, be it.
