I can log-in and save files to the network. I can type using a computer, but am uneasy with such tasks as formatting my documents or saving and creating folders. I know that some copyright restrictions apply to computer software.

I am vaguely aware of educational programs in my curriculum area.  I have my students log-in and save their files to the network (grade appropriate).

I create folders in my home directory to organize my files as appropriate. I am very comfortable editing and formatting with word-processing software. I understand the difference between freeware, shareware, and commercial software and the fees involved in the use of each.  I know the programs for which the district or my building holds a site license.

I use programs for reinforcement and enrichment. I have my students use network printers. I demonstrate ethical usage of all software and let my students know my personal stand on this issue.

I use e-mail to access professional information from listservs. I use an Internet browser to access the World Wide Web. I have moderate success finding the resources I need.

I use clip art in my word processing documents. I can produce basic presentations with appropriate software (PowerPoint). I use large screen teaching devices (LCD projector, TeleEyes, etc.) in my classroom with the help of a technician.

I do desktop publishing for newsletters and professional documents.  I use spreadsheets for simple tasks such as: classroom budgets, plan books, grade books, etc.

I have my students access appropriate files in shared folders that I’ve created.

I am an active participant in on-line discussions. I use advanced email functions such as distribution lists, address books, attachments, scheduler, public folders, etc. I maintain a simple web site for my classroom.

I can create and edit my own graphics (scanning , PhotoShop, etc.). I now use audio and video clips in my presentations (Word, FrontPage, PowerPoint, etc.).

I can handle basic troubleshooting (passwords, cables, software installation, control panels, etc.) I am very comfortable using spreadsheets for a variety of tasks such as generating purchase orders and averaging grades. I use database software for basic tasks. (mail merge, classroom inventory, etc.)  

I use specialized software and peripherals for my subject area (probes, evaluations, MIDI). I have my students use spreadsheets and databases to acquire, analyze, and present (pie charts) data.

I successfully use Boolean logic search techniques to find appropriate materials on the Internet. I maintain a multi-paged, media enriched web site, which feature links to internet resources specific to my content area as well as student work. My class has begun to participate in basic distance-learning projects as appropriate.

I can produce basic interactive courseware with appropriate software (HyperStudio, Authorware). I have students use appropriate software for presentations.  I am able to set-up and use large screen teaching devices.

I am comfortable reinstalling system and application software. I can add peripherals to my computers. 

My students utilize customized courseware I have authored for my curriculum area. My students use formulas with their databases and spreadsheets to create summations of numerical data.

I have incorporated logical search strategies into my work with students, showing them the power of such searches with an on-line encyclopedia or the Internet. My web site now incorporates advanced features such as CGI and Java scripting, form posting, and dynamic HTML. My students participate in and initiate distance-learning projects.

I can create and edit my own audio and video clips. My students produce interactive courseware (grade appropriate). I promote student interpretation and display of visual data using a variety of tools and programs.
