Grade 6 Discipline           WB01372_.gif (406 bytes)

In addition to the school-wide discipline code, the grade 6 team employs a system to encourage students to think more responsibly about their behaviors.  If a student's behavior is inappropriate, here are the steps we follow.

1) A student receives a verbal warning to cue her/him on the inappropriate behavior.

2) If the student continues with that behavior, then s/he receives a "recess detention" pass for the next recess.

3) The student goes to the teacher on recess duty and fills out a letter for the original teacher explaining why s/he missed recess. The teacher on duty checks it for appropriateness and then the child brings it home to have it signed by the parent and returned to the original teacher.

4) If the letter is not returned the next day, the child receives an automatic minor.  This would go for missing recess detention as well.

If a student does not complete a homework assignment here is the procedure we follow:

1) The student is given a recess detention pass to fill out and to return immediately to the teacher.  The child has one day to complete the assignment, although it will be counted as late work and 10% will be discounted from the grade.

2)If the child does not do the homework by the second day, he/she will go to recess detention to fill out a form to send home to his/her parents.

3)  If the student does not return the signed slip, or skips recess detention he/she will be given an automatic minor.

By using this system, we are encouraging students to take responsibility for their actions and to reflect upon their behavior.
