The quality of your work creates an impression; it shows how much you care.
Here is what 8th Grade teachers expect to find in quality work.
Assignments labeled with your name, class, period, and date.
For example Jane Smith
Earth Science, Period 4
Nov 28, 2002
Include an assignment reference when appropriate, e.g., page 108, questions 1-7, or Why
Quality Counts Project.
Write neatly and carefully so that it is easy to read. Use complete sentences and
paragraphs when appropriate. Don't turn in a rough draft as final product. Minor
corrections (one or two to a page) are acceptable.
When responding to a question or working a problem, include a copy of the question or
problem as part of your work.
Papers should be clean, unwrinkled, and with no jagged edges.
If you are turning in more than one page, number the pages, make sure your name is on
each page, and staple the pages together.
Written work should be typed or written in blue or black ink in your best handwriting,
print or cursive.
Math problems should be done in pencil. When working math problems as homework, errors
are expected. Number and leave a space between each problem so you can go back and make
corrections later. Don't cross out your mistakes, correct and learn from them.
Leave room for teacher comments or questions. Use one inch margins at the top, bottom,
left, and right of your paper.
If you are turning in typewritten work use a 12-point, common font such as New Times
Roman, Arial, Jester, Courier, etc., and double space.
Tables, graphs, figures, pictures should be labeled and captioned correctly.
When writing measurements, units should accompany numbers. There is a big difference
between 10° C and 10° K.
Be sure to use your own words. Don't use words or phrases you can't explain; you might
be asked!
Give credit to your sources. If you use sources other than the class textbook, always
include your references in the correct bibliography/ Works Cited format.
www.askjeeves.com or www.yahoo.com are not references, but search engines.
Use multiple sources, not just the Internet.
Be sure to check over and edit your work. Use, but don't rely only on, spelling and
grammar checkers.
