THE BOW KIDS CAFE'
May is finally here, and we at the bow kid’s café can tell by the appetites the children have after enjoying the great weather. This month we will have lucky tray day, this is an event they look forward to. Please remember to put your child’s name on the check when pre-paying his/hers lunch account. You can also add more that the $32.00 required. Ice cream is now .50 instead of the previous .40.
*** People ask me this question; I would like to share the answer with you.. “Are fruit drinks really an “empty calorie’ food?
Yes! Fruit drinks are mostly sugar, water flavoring, coloring, and some have added vitamins. 12oz.fruit drink can have the equivalent of 12 teaspoons of sugar and essentially no nutrients. That would qualify it as a “empty calorie “ food.

THE
FALCON'S NEST |

Welcome back from vacation!
The school year is winding down, but we will continue to offer pizza, hot & cold sandwiches, salads, and a full hot lunch right through
June 20th. Due to the ever rising costs of transportation and healthy food items we will have a slight increase in prices for next year.
Hot lunch will cost $2.25 w/ adult meals at $2.50. A few ala cart items will also see a slight change.
All lunches come with an entrée, vegetable, fruit, and milk. Remember to eat healthy and choose a variety of foods for a well balanced meal.
Choosing different colors of fruits & vegetables will insure a healthy variety weekly.
A quick reminder: Please do not re-enter the kitchen with pre-purchased foods.

FROM THE DIRECTORS DESK
Child Nutrition Employee Appreciation Week Celebrate May 5-9, 2008
Caring. Trained. Thoughtful. Professional. Dedicated. These are just a few words that describe today's child nutrition professional.
For the School Nutrition Association, every day is Child Nutrition Employee Appreciation Day, but it doesn't hurt to set aside some time to celebrate just how special child nutrition employees are.
That's why the School Nutrition Association has designated one week a year to remind everyone -- directors, managers, parents, teacher, and school administrators -- that child nutrition employees work
hard year round. And of course, to let these professionals know you're thinking of them.
Do you sing your staff's praises daily? As a parent, do you let your child's school cafeteria manager know how much you appreciate the care that goes into each meal?
Allison Niedbala, Nutrition Director, Bow School District
TOGETHER we can make a difference!
