BHS National Honor Society Events and Service Requirements

Requirements:

15 service hours participating in NHS events; 5 can be outside of an NHS event.

5 hours of tutoring a BHS, BMS or BES student. Please see tutoring sheet for information.

Mandatory events:

A minimum of participation in 1 major event (bolded) and then 2 minor events

Spring Induction – Early April

Mandatory Fundraising events:

When selling at lunch time outside the café, you can earn up to 2 hours total above the 2 hours maximum given for the number of items you sell (listed below). Example, you could sit at lunch and sell candy canes for 2 hours, and then sell 90 total, so you would receive 4 hours total.

Krispy Kreme Donuts – September ( 2 dozen donuts) 15 minutes given for each dozen sold over the mandatory 2; up to 2 hours (total of 10 dozen).

Candy Cane sales – December (10 candy canes); 15 minutes given for each group of 10 sold above this, with a maximum of 2 hours (total 90).

Carnation/Valentine’s day – February (10 carnations) 30 minutes given for each group of 10 sold above this, with a maximum of 2 hours (50 total).

Members who chair an event may receive up to 2 hours in addition to the hours listed above. A pre- and post-event conference with adviser is essential to the success of each event.

A member signing in and out at each event they attend determines all service hours. If you do not sign in, then it is on your shoulders, not the Chair’s or executive board to remember if you participated/did your service.

All members are asked to establish service goals for the year and will meet with advisers to check progress on goals in January. Members should also reflect their service to NHS prior to June 1^st. Please attach additional sheets if necessary.
