Dynamyte Use in the Classroom

Introduction: The lessons are focused on the general curriculum for language arts, communication and math skills, and align with the alternative standards. BryantÌs use of his Dynamyte is a necessary component in the success of his learning and communicating.

Lesson Plan: The objectives of the lessons are to enhance communication, develop reading and math readiness skills, and establish peer relations.

Multi-sensory approaches with matching word to word and picture or symbol to word are used to reinforce and further develop these skills. Bert and Ernie puppets are incorporated as motivators.

Activities include matching family names, creating sentences, matching action words, identifying with feelings, reading along with stories and number identification matching.

Standards: All lessons are in alignment with the Alternative Assessment produced by Measured Progress and Inclusive Large Scale Standards and assessment.

Assessment: Bryant’s progress is measured by informal and formal teacher observations, the maintenance of a portfolio, and checklists which chart progress on a weekly basis.

Reflection: I hope to build variety into the approaches used with Bryant. Word cards and matching are the main mediums used for his learning at this point. Many of these skills can be enhanced through different types of instruction which I plan to implement at the appropriate times.
