THE ABC’S OF KINDERGARTEN AT BES
A-Appropriate Dress: Please dress your child comfortably for school and make sure their clothing is easy for them to handle themselves! Encourage them to dress themselves if they are not doing so already. Our hands-on curriculum can mean coming home messy or dirty. We will do our best to keep the children as clean as possible. Sneakers are also recommended.
B-Book Orders:
Book Club orders will be sent home throughout the year. Please make sure to
write your child’s name on the order form. Write your check to the book club
(See Saw, Scholastic, etc.) and NOT TO THE SCHOOL! They will not accept cash.
C-Conferences: There will be two parent conference days in the Fall. If you or the teacher feel the need for additional conferences, we will work out a convenient time to meet. During Open House there will be a sign up sheet for conferences. During conferences, we will discuss your child’s progress and the assessment process.
D-Discipline: Each teacher has their own classroom behavior management plan. This will be discussed during Open House.
E-Email: Your
teacher’s email is:
rrader@bownet.org. Please let us know your email address. Email is the best vehicle for maintaining parent-teacher communication.
F-Field trips:
We will take 3 field trips throughout the year. We will send home a permission
slip at least one week before each trip. We usually need a few parents to
chaperone. We ask that no siblings attend when you are chaperoning.
F-Fabulous
FRIDAYS!: Students can look forward to Fun Fridays and enjoy a variety of
multi-sensory activities.
G-Good Citizen Awards: Good citizen awards are handed out in celebration of each child. During this time, your child will be “STAR OF THE WEEK” and help out as teacher’s assistant.
H-Happy
Birthday: You may send a special treat in honor of your child’s birthday to be
eaten at snack time. Please refrain from sending party hats, party favors,
etc. In addition, party invitations are not permitted at school. THIS IS A
SCHOOL POLICY! Thanks for your cooperation!
I-I look forward
to being team partners in your child’s education. Communication is ESSENTIAL!
J-Journals: Your child will keep a journal throughout the year. Creative illustrations and inventive spelling are practiced weekly.
K-“Keep up” with
class information by using the red “MOOSE” folder (Management Of Organizational
Skills Everyday). This folder is designed to keep communication between home
and school. It should “live” in your child’s backpack and be checked DAILY!
L-Library: We
will go to library on Mondays. Please make sure your child returns his or her
book weekly, so that a new book can be checked out.
M-Music: Music is an essential part of our day! Many of our songs used relate to the Kindergarten curriculum and enhance gross motor skills.
N-Newsletters: Newsletters are another form of communication. Please read them as they contain important information about your child’s classroom.
O-Open House:
Open House is in September. Your child will have the opportunity to show you
all the wonderful things that we do.
P-P.M. Drop off/AM Dismissal: P.M. drop off begins at 11:30a.m., with cars forming a line in the bus loop in front of the school. A.M. Dismissal is at 10:30a.m. Please drive up to the loop in front of the school, with your child’s name in the passenger window. A note is needed for any change in routine or if someone other than yourself is picking up your child.
Q-Quick Goodbyes: Quick goodbyes make drier eyes! TRUST ME! J
R-Reading: As we
focus on shared reading in the classroom, we encourage you to read daily with
your child. This is the first step in developing literacy.
S-Snacks: Please make sure that your child brings one small, healthy snack and a drink each day.
T-Toys: Please do not allow your child to bring toys from home to school. We have plenty of items to play with here and sometimes toys from home can get lost or broken. Thanks for your help!
U-Unstructured play: (a.k.a. “recess”)This occurs daily for 15 minutes. It is either inside or outside depending on weather or the day’s events.
V-V:
Volunteers: WE LOVE OUR VOLUNTEERS! Each kindergarten teacher has a different
approach to utilizing volunteers. Please check with your child’s teacher for
specifics at Open House. If you do come to school to help, please make sure you
sign in at the main office. We also ask that you do not bring young children to
school when you are volunteering. Each class will need “Room Mom” (s) for
organizing classroom parties, etc. Please let us know if you are interested.
W: Wish list:
There will be a wish list given out in the beginning of the year. It is not
required to make donations but we appreciate any items that you send to school!J
X: Excitement! We know how excited you and your child are about learning! We are too!
Y: YEAR: Throughout our YEAR, please check the Kindergarten web site for upcoming events.
Z: Zipping: Zipping, tying, buttoning and snapping are some self-help skills we encourage your child to practice! This will increase your child’s confidence and independence!
